The concept of the liminal runs through Chris Mew’s work, creating a space where the notion of the uncanny seeks refuge. Within these frozen moments of time, there is a semblance of direction and movement, yet everything remains suspended, including the distorted images floating on the surface and within the layers of the artworks themselves.

Film passages from Kubrick's ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ to the Greek myth of Persephone's abduction serve as conduits for depicting and elaborating on this central theme, whilst found objects such as fridge magnets, sun awnings and celluloid film are appropriated and used as vehicles for expanding the concept further.

Chris Mew graduated from the Royal Academy Schools in London with a Postgraduate Diploma, 2012.
